Well, one more Buyers Marker of American Crafts under our belt, and this one was certainly an odd one. I didn’t go, but John said traffic in aisles of the wholesale show was pretty thin. We were lucky and took a decent amount of orders, but certainly not our normal amount.
The good side of the slow show was John got to actually visit with the buyers who came into the booth. John enjoys talking to people. Reasons behind the names of galleries is something he is interested in. One of the buyers he talked to at the show said she named her gallery, Topka, in honor of her mother’s maiden name, because there were no sons to carry the name into future.
And one of John’s favorite comments was from a gallery buyer who shared this thought about why her customers buy the rattles, “It’s not the gift, but the reason behind the gift”. The rattles can be a gift to help someone celebrate an event, or maybe even more importantly, to help someone who is suffering through a difficult time.
