Robin this is a terrific example of paying attention and taking action--until you ask, the answer is always 'no' : ) Good for you and congrats on a new employee!

Hi Natalie,
Thank you for the comment. I am happy to hear you are making and selling handmade products. Your box of rattles are boxed up and will be mailed tomorrow. Good luck kid! I hope you sell tons of them in Australia. I admire your self motivation and sense of adventure and can't wait to read about your travels in your own blog someday. (I'm a bit burned out on Facebook.... it's sensory overload for me!)

Marci, you are so very right... it is a small world! But sometimes we only discover just how small it really is when we step outside our tiny boxes, huh?

Thanks for your comment Marci. I believe it takes confidence to be brave enough to expose yourself to criticism of your most personal work, and sometimes that comes off as a big ego.... and then again, some people just have big egos, when it is unwarranted. They're the ones that claim that people who don't get their work are fools, when it is actually foolish of them to think they have produced artwork. All the talented artists I know are very generous and kind, and maybe that's because they are not bothered by those that don't get it, because true artists create for themselves first.

And the scientist brain is used to looking for answers to a hypothesis. Even though I studied biology, I wouldn't call myself smart enough to be a scientist, hell, I've forgotten everything I learned anyway, but I think my studies helped me in business, because I'm always asking "why" or "how", and I'm always searching for a better way to do things.

I'm looking forward to putting our scientific brains together to come up with a better business model for today's world. I have a favorite book I want to share with you and Mert called "Talent is Overrated" by Geoff Colvin. One of my favorite quotes from the book is "The other thing we know about creativity is that it can sometimes be inhibited by too much knowledge. We often say that someone is "too close to the problem" to see a solution".

I think your's and Mert's scientific minds and fresh perspective will help me come up with solutions to the problems I am well aware of in producing American crafts in volume.

Good points Robin! Never thought about coach-teachers like that. Won't be negative and say what I do think...about that one. Since taking some art classes lately, I've noticed that so many of those teaching art have HUGE egos! What's up w/that? Think it's the same thing, kind of? They can't really make it as full-time artists so they teach to bring in some kind of dough? Most artists I know are pretty nice! I REALLY REALLY have tried hard to 'like' these 'teachers', however, it ain't easy!!!! Anyway, it is definitley different than what I experienced in taking science classes. Thought I would ENJOY these art classes more...maybe...it's just because I plain suck?? hahaha
